OPTIONS
Conservatory
A conservatory is predominantly glass, with this making up more than 75% of the structure. The glazed frames are often positioned on top of a small dwarf wall.
Unlike an orangery, a conservatory has a fully sloped or pitched roof, made from glass or polycarbonate.
Conservatories can often avoid the need for full Building Regulations approval if they are under 30m² and remain separated from the main house by an external door.
Orangery
An orangery combines glass with brick or stone pillars and solid walls, which typically make up more than 25% of the structure, making them feel more like a permanent room when compared to a conservatory.
Orangeries usually feature a flat roof around the perimeter, with a glass lantern skylight positioned in the centre. The additional brickwork and insulation can help retain heat during winter while keeping the space cooler during summer.
Because an orangery is generally considered a permanent extension to the home, it will usually need to comply fully with Building Regulations.
Solid Roof Conservatory
A solid roof conservatory offers improved thermal insulation compared with traditional glass or polycarbonate roofs. This can help reduce overheating during summer and minimise heat loss during colder months.
Solid roofs can also reduce the sound of heavy rain and wind, creating a quieter space throughout the year.
As solid roofs are considerably heavier than glass alternatives, existing conservatory frames may need to be assessed to make sure they can safely support the additional weight. Depending on the project, Building Regulations approval or planning permission may also be required.
Porch Kit
A porch is a small entranceway at the front of a house, designed to provide extra protection from the elements. It also creates a practical space for leaving wet shoes and coats.
Porches under 3m² generally do not require building regulations approval. To remain exempt, the existing main front entrance door should stay in place.
A porch can be designed with a range of roof options, including polycarbonate, glass, or a flat roof, making it easy to create a style that suits almost any house or bungalow.
As porches are fitted with an external-grade door, they can also provide an additional layer of security. They create a useful buffer between the main front door and the outdoors, helping to improve energy efficiency.
hup!
hup! is a building system designed to create extensions and conservatories significantly faster than traditional construction methods, with build times up to five times quicker than a standard brick extension.
The exterior can be finished in a choice of render, cladding, or brick slips, allowing the extension to complement the style of the existing property.
hup! wall panels are A-rated for thermal performance, providing a highly insulated alternative to traditional cavity walls.
hup! is a registered trademark of Ultraframe (UK) Ltd
